Common STI Symptoms

80% of sexually transmitted infections are asymptomatic (do not display any symptoms), however, if symptoms do occur, they are likely to present themselves within two weeks of contraction. Symptoms of sexually transmitted infections may include:

When You Should Test

STIs can take time to become detectable. This is called the window period. You should wait at least 12 weeks from the time of potential exposure to infection before taking this STI test. You should also consider getting tested if:

  • You become sexually active.
  • You have had unprotected sex.
  • You are experiencing symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection.
  • You are entering into a new sexual relationship.
  • You have received a notification from a previous partner that they are infected.
  • The sample must be collected from the initial stream of urine in the morning and returned on

7When should I collect and return my sample?
The sample must be collected in the morning, on a Monday-Friday, and returned on the same day. For your urine sample please make sure to collect the initial stream of urine in the morning before cleansing the genital area and do not urinate at least 1 hour prior to collection.

If you are concerned about possible exposure to one of these infections, you should refrain from sexual activity until you receive a test result. For some infections, retesting after treatment may be required.

Return your sample using the carrier method provided within the sample collection kit. Each of our health tests includes a prepaid shipping envelope to return your samples to the laboratory.

Please do not collect or return samples on a Saturday or Sunday.
